New Jersey ‘storm clouds’ could come to PA

Our neighbors to the east are suffering hundreds of layoffs, state and local budget cuts, benefit reductions, and a war on their union – because of a new governor.

Chris Christie was elected governor of New Jersey last November. Since then, he has forced draconian measures that reduced school employees’ pensions, slashed the state budget, and prompted layoffs throughout the state.

Your colleagues in New Jersey schools fear for their jobs, the future of collective bargaining and public education.

New Jersey now has a 2 percent cap on school funding increases.  The state education budget was cut by $1.4 billion. More than 10,000 people are losing their jobs.

New Jersey Education Association members are warning PSEA members to prevent similar horrors from moving to Pennsylvania.

“We can learn a lesson from New Jersey and get out and vote for supportive candidates,” PSEA President James P. Testerman said. “We need to do everything possible to prevent New Jersey’s horror show from running in Pennsylvania.”
